Man Utd XI vs Aston Villa: Confirmed team news and predicted lineup

Decisions: Michael Carrick

Manchester United will be hoping to have a couple of key players back from injury when they take on Aston Villa on Saturday.

Michael Carrick’s side leapfrogged Unai Emery’s men into third with their win over Crystal Palace at the end of February, but they missed out on the chance to put some distance between the two sides after a 2-1 loss at Newcastle United.

That result was Carrick’s first in his second interim spell at his former club, but United are still third on goal difference.

The Red Devils will be hoping to have one of Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Noussair Mazraoui back in action as all three recover from their respective injuries.

Mount has been out with a knock that he took in training, while Martinez has been missing for longer than anticipated with a calf problem.

Mazraoui suffered a foot injuryat Newcastle and it remains to be seen whether he can face Villa here.

Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt are longer-term absentees.

As such, should the three immediate concerns be ruled out, then you can expect Senne Lammens to be shielded by a back four of Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw.

Kobbie Mainoo has forged a solid partnership with Casemiro, with Bruno Fernandes ahead of them.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha should be the wide men, with Benjamin Sesko leading the line.

Amad Diallo could potentially come in on the right, should Carrick want to drop Sesko once more.

Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko

Doubts: Mount, Mazraoui, Martinez

Injured: Dorgu, de Ligt
