Ratcliffe's not messing around: Man Utd plot blockbuster summer move for "electric" £70m star

Manchester United are now plotting a blockbuster summer move for a "world-class" £70m star, who they believe would thrive in the Premier League.

Man Utd keen to strengthen at full-back

Bringing in new options on both sides of defence is on the agenda for Man United this summer, with it recently being revealed Borussia Dortmund star Julian Ryerson, who is a right-back by trade, could be available for a relatively low fee.

However, the Red Devils are arguably having more issues on the opposite side, with journalist Samuel Luckhurst recently saying: "United are starting to have issues at left back again, despite signing a left back in the summer. Diego Leon is not training with the first team, though."

Leon is yet to make a senior appearance, featuring in the Premier League 2 this season, whereas Patrick Dorgu has been suffering with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, leaving Luke Shaw, who has been criticised this season, as the only option at left-back.

As such, it could make sense to strengthen in that area this summer, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe isn't messing around, having identified Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies as a target, with a blockbuster move now in the works.

That is according to a report from Sports Boom, which states bringing in a left-back is a top priority for the Red Devils this summer, and there is a belief Davies would be able to thrive in the Premier League.

The Canadian is a 'headline target' for United, with a huge transfer battle on the cards, but a deal could break the bank, given that the German side are expected to hold out for at least £70m.

"Electric" Davies could be exciting signing for Man Utd

Scout Ben Mattinson has been left impressed by the Canadian's performances for his country, singling him out for particularly high praise just under two years ago.

The 25-year-old is very impressive on the front foot, having chipped in with 14 goals and 37 assists in 237 appearances for Bayern Munich, whereas Shaw has just one assist to his name in the Premier League this season.

As such, Davies could be a very exciting signing for Man United, but his persistent injury problems may be a concern, having missed a number of games for club and country over the past four seasons.
