Manchester United will aim to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United are level on points with Villa, but are ahead of them in the standings on goal difference. The Red Devils need a victory to strengthen their Champions League qualification hopes.
Michael Carrick’s side stepped up preparation for the clash on Thursday, with youngster JJ Gabriel joining the training session.
Gabriel has been in superb form for Man United U18s, leading their quest for the U18 Premier League North title. The young Reds trail leaders Manchester City by two points.
The 15-year-old has scored 18 league goals, overtaking Liverpool’s Joshua Sonni-Lambie as the competition’s overall top scorer.
Gabriel recently scored a stunning goal in the 5-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, adding to his collection of great goals this season.
His involvement in the first team training session shows the club’s recognition of his progress.
The promising forward also trained with the senior team in October ahead of the Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Gabriel is unlikely to be involved against Villa, given the plethora of options at Carrick’s disposal.
However, this would send a message to the youngster that United have a plan for him. He now has to continue his progress to earn eventual promotion to the first team.
Gabriel could feature in the Mancunian giants’ pre-season training squad next summer.
Unlike last summer, United are set to stay in Europe for their pre-season fixtures and will not embark on a tour of the United States or Asia.
