Michael Carrick has another chance to correct his Newcastle error by unleashing Amorim’s‘gift’vs Villa

Michael Carrick hasn’t made many mistakes at Man Utd so far, but fate has thrown him another chance to correct one he did make against Newcastle.

People will argue that the loss against Newcastle was a long time coming (Paul Scholes certainly did!), but Michael Carrick wasn’t faultless either.

He continued to fix what wasn’t broken by dropping Amad for Benjamin Sesko, and his in-game management left a lot to be desired.

The major red flag was his continued misuse of the only gift Ruben Amorim left for him, something he can correct against Aston Villa after refusing to do so against Newcastle.

Michael Carrick must trust Ayden Heaven in familiar territory

Ayden Heaven has played a grand total of seven minutes for Man Utd since Carrick took charge, and for once, the “light schedule” reason doesn’t work.

In the absence of Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, and Patrick Dorgu, Heaven should easily be making at least appearances off the bench in every game, if not starting games.

The game against Newcastle was ideal for Heaven, not just because of the tactical fit, but also because one of his best performances in a United shirt came against them at Old Trafford in December.

Heaven is one of the few young players Amorim actually trusted in crunch moments, and he was rewarded with a sparkling display against the Magpies.

When United visited St James’ Park, Carrick ignored Heaven, and to make matters worse, played Tyrell Malacia instead.

With Aston Villa arriving next, Carrick has a chance to rectify that mistake.

Heaven was again one of the standout performers when Villa were beaten 2-0 by United last season under Amorim, so this is familiar territory for the youngster.

Fate has thrown Carrick a second chance to rectify his Newcastle mistake by unleashing Heaven against Villa. There’s no excuse not to.

Heaven is Ruben Amorim’s only ‘gift’ for Man Utd

There aren’t many players in the current Man Utd squad who can say that they had a better time of things under Amorim, compared to Carrick.

Even his biggest success stories, like Cunha and Mbeumo, are playing better after his sacking.

Only Heaven is someone who felt completely trusted by Amorim, and can’t seem to get consistent minutes under Carrick.

The interim manager needs to ensure that Amorim’s only gift to United isn’t stalled in his development, because he has already proven himself capable of handling this level.

The decision to field Malacia ahead of him is indefensible, so he must take the chance to reset the narrative against Villa.

Amorim’s only gift to United is too precious to be discarded in favour of a player who won’t be here in August.
