Kovács’s football career began in his home country, but the talented Hungarian soon chose the Netherlands to complete his development. Firstcame his time in the Ajax youth system, followed by a move to AZ Alkmaar, a club with a long-standing reputation for nurturing young talent.
It was whilst wearing the AZ shirt that the centre-forward began to make his mark on a consistent basis. In his final season in the Dutch U19 league, he scored 14 goals in 14 matches, figures that made him one of the most prolific strikers in the division. His performances have also opened the doors to Jong AZ, the club’s reserve side competing in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the Dutch second tier, where he has already begun to rack up valuable minutes against more experienced opponents. In this league, Kovacs has scored 5 goals in 7 appearances.
