Manchester United are looking to bolster their ranks this summer with new faces

Manchester United are ‘monitoring’ Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer, according to The Sun. They are being heavily linked with a swoop for the Italy international in the next transfer window. His contract in the North East expires in June 2028.

The Red Devils are aiming to get back into the Champions League this season. They are currently positioned in 3rd place in the Premier League table behind Arsenal and Manchester City. Michael Carrick remains in caretaker charge until a permanent replacement for Ruben Amorim is found.

Manchester United continue to be linked with Sandro Tonali at Newcastle United

The Sun’s report suggests Tonali is one of ‘several’ central midfielders who United are looking at right now. They are also said to be keeping tabs on Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Carlos Baleba. Casemiro is leaving when this campaign ends so they will have to fill the void left by his impending exit.

Tonali has been a standout player for Newcastle over recent times. They could face a serious battle to keep hold of him down the line amid attention from elsewhere. He has been on their books since joining them back in 2023.

The 25-year-old has made 103 appearances in all competitions, 46 of which have come this term, and he has chipped in with 10 goals. Prior to his move to England, he spent three years at AC Milan and found the net on seven occasions in 130 matches for the Serie A giants. He rose up through Brescia’s academy.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has recently said: “Sandro’s very happy here. He’s got a great relationship with me and his teammates and he seems really, really, happy within himself. I don’t see an issue, but I’m not in control of everything. If I knew where everything [rumours] came from I’d be wiser. But Sandro is absolutely fine. I had discussions with him yesterday. His focus is on the here and now with us.

“There’s no issue with Sandro. He’s happy and committed. But our best players will always be attracting glances from other clubs – that’s just the reality of football.”
