Fresh De Ligt update emerges tonight as insider shares what Man Utd star has been doing this…

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has been doing gym and rehabilitation work this week, according to United insider Sully. The Red Devils have been without the Dutchman since last November following a lower back problem he sustained in the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace. De Ligt had been close to returning to full fitness on a number of occasions but has suffered setbacks and it remains to be seen when Man United manager Michael Carrick will be able to have him available for selection.

There are concerns internally over the 26-year-old at the Old Trafford club. There are nine games remaining for Man United this season and it appears he will not be returning to action this month. Carrick started his reign with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez as his centre-back pairing but has brought in Leny Yoro to play alongside the Englishman following an injury to the Argentine.

The Red Devils are back in action on Sunday when they host Aston Villa and will be desperate to return to winning ways following the 2-1 loss to Newcastle United last time out.

They are in fierce battle for a top-four spot and will need to pip the Villans to all three points in the crucial six-pointer.

Man United are also currently without Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu, but the English midfielder could soon be back in action after an update from Carrick earlier today.
