Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend

Crystal Palace are ‘expected’ to cash in on Manchester United target Adam Wharton this summer, as detailed in a report by The Sun. The Red Devils have been linked with a swoop for the midfielder in the next transfer window. His contract at Selhurst Park expires in June 2029.

Michael Carrick remain in caretaker charge at Old Trafford until a permanent replacement for Ruben Amorim is found. The North West giants are back in action this weekend at home against Aston Villa. They lost 2-1 away at Newcastle United last time out.

Manchester United receive boost in pursuit of Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace

Wharton, 22, would be an ideal addition for United if they managed to snap him up. He would inject more quality into their options in the middle of the park. In addition, he could fill the void left by Casemiro’s impending departure.

The England international, who has three caps to his name, made the switch to South London back in January 2025 and hasn’t looked back since. He has become one of Crystal Palace’s most prized assets and has adapted with ease to the step up to the top flight. The Lancashire-born man has made 82 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions to date, 39 of which have come this season.

Wharton rose up through Blackburn Rovers’ academy and represented them at various different youth levels. He broke into their first-team as a teenager and played 51 matches, scoring four goals. His current club then came calling for his signature.

At the time, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “I’m delighted that Adam, a player whose rapid development we have followed closely, has decided to join us at Crystal Palace.

“Adam’s consistently impressive performances for Blackburn at such a young age have understandably caught the eye of many a club, but we believe Palace to be – as has so often been the case in recent years – the perfect place to harness his undoubted potential, and we look forward to working with him in the years ahead to do so.”

Meanwhile, Wharton added: "I've always wanted to play in the Premier League and to play for such a big club like Crystal Palace is a great honour.

"The way they've brought players from the Championship and developed them into world-class players in the Premier League is something that stood out to me, and it's a big reason why I wanted to come here."
