Manchester United have the chance to freshen up their squad with some reinforcements this summer

Manchester United have their ‘sights’ set on RB Leipzig defender David Raum, according to TEAMtalk. The report suggests a deal worth around £30million could be struck this summer. He is under contract in Germany until June 2027.

The Red Devils are sat in 3rd place in the Premier League table. They are aiming to get back into the Champions League this season. Michael Carrick’s side take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.

If United signed Raum, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. He is a left-back who likes to get up and down the flank and get involved in attacks. The Nuremberg-born man has been a key player for RB Leipzig over recent times but they could lose him in the next transfer window amid attention from elsewhere.

Raum, 27, joined his current club back in 2022 and he hasn’t looked back since. He has made 137 appearances in all competitions to date, 28 of which have come this season, and he has chipped in with seven goals. If he left, they would need to find an adequate replacement.

The Germany international, who has made 34 caps for his country to date, started his career at Greuther Furth. He rose up through their academy and was a regular at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team. Hoffenheim then came calling for his signature in 2021 and he spent 12 months there before Leipzig swooped in.

At the time, Raum said: "I'm very happy about my move to RB Leipzig. The club made a lot of effort to bring me here and the discussions with head coach Domenico Tedesco, the club management and CEO Oliver Mintzlaff quickly convinced me that coming to Leipzig is absolutely the right step for me.

"I'm moving to a football-mad city with a fantastic stadium and a club that stands for successful and attractive football. RB Leipzig gives me the chance to play in the Champions League and offers the perfect conditions for me to develop. I'm really looking forward to getting to know the team, settling in quickly and helping my teammates on the pitch."
