Kai Rooney stands among the most discussed young prospects in English football today. At just 11 years old, he followed his iconic father Wayne into Manchester United's academy system. With Wayne holding the record for United's all-time goal scorer and Kai operating as an attacker, the 16-year-old has found it impossible to avoid comparisons, with supporters tracking his development closely since 2020.

Despite this spotlight, he has managed to shine whilst progressing through United's youth structure. Originally deployed as a centre-forward but now featuring on the right flank, Rooney made his Old Trafford debut in January when appearing for the Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup.

The youngster has already achieved numerous milestones in his fledgling career, both on the pitch and off it. Here, Express Sport takes a look at the various agreements the teenager has secured as one of Britain's most commercially attractive young sportspeople.

Announcement made

Rooney has progressed his developing career by putting pen to paper with Triple S Sports Management. The firm previously looked after his father, the former England captain, throughout his playing days.

Managed by the United legend's long-standing representative, Paul Stretford, the firm has now added another Rooney to its roster. An Instagram announcement confirmed the teenager's signing, stating: "Delighted to announce the signing of @kairooney.10 to Triple S Sports!

"We're excited to begin working with the Manchester United forward as he continues his journey in the game. A bright future ahead."

Puma boots ban

The left-footed winger secured a boot contract with Puma in 2022. The sportswear giant recruited him aged just 12, following an impressive 56-goal campaign.

Kai revealed the partnership, which has seen him sporting Puma footwear and apparel since, via an Instagram post, stating: "Great to sign for @puma. Only see great."

Wayne recently revealed that his son receives no special treatment within the United academy, explaining that Kai is banned from wearing his Puma boots for the U16s under club regulations.

Wayne explained on The Smith Brothers: Not A Podcast: "He's obviously with Puma but when he plays for the Manchester United U16s, something which I really like is he can't wear his Puma boots.

"All the academy have to wear the same boots. They do it because there's people from areas where they can't afford certain boots so I think it's really good. But he's played for the U18s a few times and he can then wear his Puma boots. He's doing well to be fair to him."

Man Utd new contract 'offer'

In February, Kai Rooney dismissed rumours that he had been offered a lucrative new contract by United. Some reports claimed that Rooney, who turns 17 in November, has been offered an initial one-year scholarship that will transition into a three-year professional agreement worth approximately £50,000 per week, along with an annual signing-on fee.

The report suggested the offer had been accepted by the Rooney family, with numerous other media outlets subsequently reporting the same. However, this was swiftly debunked by the young player himself on social media.

He posted on his Instagram story: "Don't listen to mail [three laughing face emojis]."
