He's agreed to join Man Utd: The next Pogba is on his way to Old Trafford in 2026 - opinion

2026 looks set to be another defining summer for the Premier League and Manchester United, in particular, with the Red Devils one of a string of clubs set for a potential change in the dugout.

Elsewhere too, with an expanded World Cup rumbling on in the background, United will also have to oversee a significant squad overhaul at Old Trafford, with so many futures looking uncertain at present.

Casemiro-Man-Utd-Man-City

Casemiro is already certain to leave, while it remains to be seen if Harry Maguire will join him, amid the lack of a new deal for the long-serving Englishman.

There is also the likelihood of another Bruno Fernandes saga, considering the Portuguese genius only has a year left on his existing contract, with the experienced core of this side potentially on their way out.

If it is a case of out with the old and in with the new, there is at least a core of exciting youngsters for United to look to, both at Carrington and externally.

The youngsters who could be first-team Man Utd players next season

There have been brief cameos for Jack and Tyler Fletcher in recent months, alongside the first taste of senior action for 18-year-old, Shea Lacey, although 2025/26 has not truly been a breakout year for any academy product thus far.

That could all change next season, however, with a first-team debut seemingly in the works for 15-year-old sensation, JJ Gabriel, following the teenager's remarkable form at youth level of late.

The player everyone is talking about right now, Gabriel leads the way as the highest-scoring player in the U18 Premier League this campaign, with 18 goals from just 19 games in the competition, having also caught the eye in the FA Youth Cup.

Hopes are also high for 16-year-old forward Kai Rooney, son of Wayne, as they are for diminutive midfielder, Jim Thwaites, with the centre of the park likely to need bolstering at first-team level ahead of next term.

The loss of Casemiro and co also ensures that Sekou Kone, currently out on loan with INEOS-owned Lausanne, could be in line for a long-awaited senior bow at Old Trafford, while 18-year-old Irishman, Jacob Devaney, is another one to watch following his fine start to life on loan at St Mirren.

Radek-Vitek-Man-Utd

The likes of Radek Vitek and Harry Amass are also among those who could be brought back into the mix, following their spells in the Championship, while permanent promotions could be in store for the teenage pairing of Chido Obi and Diego Leon.

Leon, still only 18, was signed last January before eventually arriving last July, with the Red Devils having already struck a similar deal ahead of the upcoming summer window.

The next Pogba is already on his way to United

United have been no strangers to signing the best and brightest in recent times, notably plucking a 16-year-old Alejandro Garnacho from Atletico Madrid in 2020, while previously also landing a 16-year-old by the name of Paul Pogba back in 2009.

Now could be the time for Michael Carrick to shake things up after Man Utd's narrow win over Everton.

A polarising figure it must be said in his later stint at United, Pogba's pure talent was evident in his teenage years, memorably playing his part in the club's FA Youth Cup triumph in 2011.

Even then, the Frenchman's qualities came to the fore, operating as a powerful, ball-carrying midfielder who could bully the opposition, both with his fleet of foot and impressive stature.

While 17-year-old Cristian Orozco may be a more defensive-minded talent, the Colombian is the latest, exciting midfield addition at Old Trafford, with INEOS having struck a deal back in October to bring the teenager to Manchester when he turns 18 this summer.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano at the time, United have paid a fee of around £750k to prise Orozco from Fortaleza, even with the youngster having made just two senior appearances for his current side to date.

Like Pogba - who had captained France's U16 side prior to moving to Old Trafford - United may well have largely taken note of the midfielder's form on the international stage, including last summer's U17 World Cup.

In four appearances in the competition, Orozco averaged 3.0 tackles and interceptions per game, alongside recovering 6.5 balls per game on average, highlighting just what a monster he is out of possession.

Like Pogba, he is already a leader despite his youth, having captained his country in last summer's tournament, while he is no slouch either on the ball, hailed as being "so composed under pressure", in the view of analyst Ben Mattinson.

While United's most recent venture into South America hasn't yet paid off, with Paraguayan teen, Leon, still waiting for his debut, it is encouraging to see the club looking to the long-term again with such low-cost investments.

Hopefully, just as Pogba was for a brief time, Orozco can prove to be the next high potential, midfield sensation at the Theatre of Dreams.
