Bryan Mbeumo convinced‘super-fast’player who was linked with Man Utd is as tough as Calvin Bassey

Manchester United star Bryan Mbeumo has explained the real test that he has faced on the pitch against Fulham defenders Antonee Robinson and Calvin Bassey in his career.

Antonee Robinson has been linked with Manchester United and the Red Devils are not alone in their interest in the 28-year-old Fulham and United States left-back.

Liverpool and Aston Villa have also been tipped as potential suitors for Man Utd target Robinson, who has been valued at around £25m in the transfer market.

Bryan Mbeumo opened up about his experience of crossing paths with Robinson and why the Fulham star is equally comparable with Calvin Bassey for his toughness.

Man Utd ace Bryan Mbeumo breaks down the superb qualities of Fulham and United States defender Antonee Robinson

Speaking to TikToker ‘Zack en Roue Libre,’ Bryan Mbeumo revealed that he found Antonee Robinson to be a real handful when the Fulham ace was at Wigan Athletic.

“One that nobody is going to think of is Robinson. From Fulham,” he said.

“That guy, I played against him, I played against him a lot at the time, because he was at Wigan.

“Wigan, we played against them in the league. And I think it was the moment when he had just arrived in England, and he was really the prototype of the athletic American who runs super-fast, but with his feet, he was really, you know, he wasn’t very good, you know?”

Robinson was loaned out to Wigan Athletic in 2018 while he was at Everton before the United States international made the move permanent to the club in 2019.

The former Everton player made 65 appearances for Wigan and netted once and registered two assists before he moved to Fulham in 2020 for a £2m transfer fee.

Mbeumo continued: “But he has progressed a lot. And I’m really happy when I see his progression because, well, he started like me, a bit lower, and now he is at Fulham, and honestly, he is really good. Honestly, I really like this full-back.”

Why Bryan Mbeumo puts Fulham defender Calvin Bassey in the same bracket as Man Utd-linked Antonee Robinson

Mbeumo admitted that Calvin Bassey would be one of his toughest opponents of all time alongside Robinson after being impressed with the 26-year-old defender’s size.

The 26-year-old Cameroon and Manchester United attacker felt that Bassey showed his true ability before his appearance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

“And another one, well, he plays in his team as well, Calvin Bassey,” Mbeumo said.

“And him, I think it came out a lot at AFCON. Even the AFCON before as well. Calvin Bassey. He’s twice my size. He’s too powerful. It’s crazy.

“And on top of that, he’s fast too, the same, he’s strong. No, it’s not nice to play against him, but… yeah?”

Bassey played six of Nigeria’s seven matches at the AFCON competition, as Eric Chelle’s men finished third after beating Egypt on penalties in January.
