Bryan Mbeumo’s second half of his first season at Manchester United has been less convincing, with the winger struggling to recapture the form that earned him a big-money move from Brentford.
The Cameroonian endured arguably his worst performance for the club in the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, which marked United’s first loss in eight games under interim manager Michael Carrick.
While Mbeumo remains United’s top scorer in the Premier League with nine goals, he has now gone more than a month without finding the back of the net.
The 26-year-old's last goal came on February 7, in the 2-0 win over Tottenham, after which he has only registered a couple of assists under Carrick.
Bryan Mbeumo's Dip in Form Explained
bryan mbeumo
According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Mbeumo’s recent dip in form could be linked to fitness concerns.
The Cameroonian forward struggled in back-to-back games against Newcastle and Crystal Palace, played just three days apart, and there are concerns the quick turnaround is affecting him.
Luckhurst reports that Mbeumo’s former club, Brentford, have suggested the winger may find it challenging to cope with two or three games per week, having previously been accustomed to a lighter schedule:
"The word from Mbeumo’s old club Brentford is he could find it a challenge to play two or three games per week."
The claim is perhaps surprising, given that United have spent most of the season focused on a single competition, following early exits from both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Man Utd Eyeing New Left Winger
Michael Carrick
Manchester United could address their concerns in the wide areas this summer, with Carrick hinting that the arrival of a new left winger is something the club could consider.
The Red Devils have lacked a natural option on the left since moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation under Carrick, despite flashes of promise from defender Patrick Dorgu.
The Dane scored two goals in his first two games under Carrick before suffering an unfortunate hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined.
In Dorgu’s absence, Matheus Cunha has occupied the left flank in recent games, registering an assist in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Who Could Man Utd Target?
Yan Diomande
Amid United’s potential plans to sign a new winger, we asked ChatGPT to name three possible targets for the Red Devils this summer:
Marcus Tavernier (Bournemouth) – A Premier League‑proven winger who has been influential this season with goals and assists from the left flank. At around £40 million, he represents a relatively affordable option with top‑flight experience.
Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) – One of Europe’s most exciting young dribblers and attackers off the left, Diomande has drawn interest from several big clubs. His direct style and pace could fit United’s wide‑attacking needs, though he would likely command a significant fee.
Iliman Ndiaye (Everton) – A Premier League‑proven wide forward with high dribble success and creative output. Younger and established in England, he offers a blend of pace and goal threat that would strengthen United’s left flank.
