The Lewis family might be looking to cash-in on Tottenham in the coming months
Tottenham are in a mess right now as the club fights to maintain its top-flight status this season. Not many would have predicted that the Lilywhites would be in a relegation dogfight just nine months after winning the Europa League in Bilbao against Manchester United. But that is exactly where the North Londoners find themselves right now, largely due to the incompetence shown by the Lewis family.
The majority shareholders of ENIC have made little more than false promises since taking charge of the footballing side of Spurs earlier in the season. They had initially promised to build on the Europa League success by investing heavily in the squad. A figure of around £100m was reportedly injected into the club to strengthen the team and bring in additional reinforcements during the winter window. However, it is fair to say that it proved to be nothing more than a false dawn presented by the Lewis family to the loyal supporters.
The Lewis family have repeatedly failed to deliver on their promises at N17. Because of their inability to lead the club effectively, the Lilywhites now find themselves in a relegation dogfight this season. The decision to appoint Thomas Frank and persist with him until it was too late, coupled with the choice to appoint Igor Tudor as Frank’s successor, has surely highlighted how clueless the ENIC shareholders appear when it comes to leading Spurs.
Amanda Staveley is looking to make a bid to buy Tottenham in the near future
It comes as no surprise that the Lewis family are reportedly hoping to sell their stock in Tottenham in the coming months. The Lilywhites appear to be heading into a downward spiral and could even face relegation from the Premier League this season. As a result, it might be in the best interest of the majority shareholders of ENIC to cash in on the North London club before their value potentially drops significantly later this year.
As per TEAMtalk (via GiveMeSport), former Newcastle United owner Amanda Staveley is hopeful of securing a deal to buy Tottenham from the Lewis family in the coming months. The 52-year-old multimillionaire is keen to take charge of the North London club and help guide them back to their glory days in the coming years. She has consistently remained a potential candidate to purchase the club as the Lewis family continue to consider their stance on the ongoing takeover rumours.
The same report also adds that Amanda Staveley is keen to bring current Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe to N17 if she ends up purchasing the club. Staveley shares a strong working relationship with the English tactician after hiring him for the Magpies when she first took charge of the club. It is believed that Howe would be open to joining Spurs if the right opportunity presents itself in the coming months.
Spurs are actively looking to appoint a permanent manager after it has become clear that Igor Tudor may not be the right man to turn the club’s fortunes around in the Premier League. The Lilywhites are hoping to hire a manager capable of helping the club navigate this difficult situation and maintain their top-flight status this season. Only then will the North Londoners be able to compete at the top end of the table and challenge on multiple fronts next year.
Will we see the Lewis family sell their stock at N17 if the right offer comes in? Only time will tell. But fans will hope that a change in the boardroom is the next piece of business that the Lilywhites begin working on.
