Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand was all praise for outgoing midfielder Casemiro's performance in the 3-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday (March 15).
Following a goalless first half, Casemiro broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second period. Villa equalised 11 minutes later through Ross Barkley, but the Red Devils were back in front, thanks to Matheus Cunha's strike 19 minutes from time, with Bruno Fernandes providing his second assist of the night.
Substitute Benjamin Sesko - in for Bryan Mbuemo in the 75th minute - confirmed the three points for Michael Carrick's strike 10 minutes later as United returned to winning ways following a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United earlier this month.
Casemiro enjoyed a solid outing against Villa. creating a big chance and a key pass, making 31/39 passes - including 16/23 in the opposition half - and 4/7 long balls in 89 minutes of action (stats as per Sofascore at the time of writing).
"Another set piece goal for Casemiro," Ferdinand tweeted. "What a guy man - love him! The celebration for his kids also. He loves Manchester United 💯 🇧🇷❤️."
Casemiro's second-half opener was his sixth header of the ongoing Premier League campaign, two more than any other player. Overall, the Brazilian has scored seven times and provided two assists - with all nine goal contributions coming in the league - in 29 games across competitions.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are flying high in third after 30 games, 16 points behind runaway leaders Arsenal, who have played a game more, with Casemiro, 34, set to exit on a free transfer at the end of the season.
