Manchester United took a massive step towards Champions League football on Sunday, thanks to Bruno Fernandes.
Old Trafford played host to a Champions League qualification race on Sunday, with Manchester United running out 3-1 winners over Aston Villa.
In the win, Bruno Fernandes stood out with two assists, first for Casemiro and then for Matheus Cunha, both of which were excellent passes.
While Fernandes’ brilliance is driving United towards Champions League qualification, his individual season is one for the history books.
Who was YOUR Man of the Match against Villa?
A huge win for United, but who was the best player on the pitch?
Bruno Fernandes breaks the record set by David Beckham in 2000
Fernandes was the best player on the pitch during the 3-1 win against Villa, and it saw him make history.
With his first assist, Fernandes matched the record assist tally for a United player in the Premier League over one season, and then with the second, he broke that record.
The record was held by David Beckham previously, stretching back to the 1999/2000 season, when he set it with 15, 26 years ago. But now Fernandes has 16, and could completely decimate the record with eight games left to continue assisting.

Fernandes now boasts 105 goals and 103 assists for United, which combined puts him right up there alongside some of the best players to ever represent the club.
But this isn’t the only record he will have wanted to break this season, with the main one still being hunted.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, Fernandes reacted to breaking the record.
“We’re talking about one of the best passers, so I’m happy [to have broken the record].
“It’s not going to change what I really want, but being right up there with a player recognised for his passes and his crosses makes me happy…”

Bruno Fernandes needs four assists to match Premier League record
Fernandes’ incredible rate of assists this season has led to talk that he could make history with the most assists in the history of the Premier League over the course of one season.
16 assists puts Fernandes just four off breaking the all-time record of 20 set by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.
Kevin De Bruyne (2019-20): 20 assists
Thierry Henry (2002-03): 20 assists
Mohamed Salah (2024-25): 18 assists
Kevin De Bruyne (2016-17): 18 assists
Mesut Ozil (2015-16): 18 assists
Cesc Fabregas (2014-15): 18 assists
Frank Lampard (2004-05): 18 assists
Cesc Fabregas (2007-08): 17 assists
Bruno Fernandes (2025-26): 16 assists *Eight games to play*
Kevin De Bruyne (2022-23): 16 assists
Considering Fernandes is on a run of four assists in three games, his form would suggest that the record could belong to Fernandes, and he might even raise the level by a few assists.
