Everton star Jack Grealish was left in awe after watching Bruno Fernandes star for Manchester United in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa. The Portugal international provided a pair of assists for his side as they took a big step towards UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.
Grealish, who is currently out injured, shared a picture on his Instagram story of him watching the clash between his boyhood club Villa and Manchester United. He praised Bruno Fernandes in his caption, expressing his admiration for the 31-year-old midfielder.
"Bruno is absolutely unbelievable footballer man", he wrote.
Bruno Fernandes was in the thick of things as Michael Carrick extended his 100% home record in the Premier League. He popped up with two assists in the second half to take his tally in the league this season to 16 for the Red Devils.
Jack Grealish is a known adversary of Fernandes and Manchester United, having played against them for Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Everton. The 30-year-old is not expected to feature anymore this season for the Toffees, where he has been on loan, due to a foot injury that required surgery.
Fernandes' efforts in the win over Villa saw Manchester United go six points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool in the race for a top four finish. The former Sporting Club man also surpassed David Beckham's 15 assists from the 1999-00 season as the most for the club in a Premier League campaign.
Manchester United secure vital win over Aston Villa
Manchester United took full advantage of their rivals' struggles with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa to strengthen their push for a UEFA Champions League place. The Red Devils saw off Unai Emery's men with a professional display at Old Trafford, leaving them three points ahead of Villa.
Neither side managed to score in the opening period as they cancelled each other out. Casemiro broke the deadlock after 53 minutes when he headed home a corner from Bruno Fernandes, a combination that has become very familiar this season. Aston Villa equalised in the 64th minute through Ross Barkley, who curled home a fine effort.
Parity lasted for just seven minutes in the game as the home side caught their opponents out with a counter, allowing Matheus Cunha to finish off a Bruno assist. Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to score his side's third in the 81st minute, rounding off the scoring in a fine display at home.
