Manchester United will be able to bolster their ranks when the summer transfer window opens up

Manchester United are ‘seriously considering’ a move for Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams this summer, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes. The Red Devils may try and lure the La Liga ace to Old Trafford in the next transfer window. His contract expires in June 2035.

Michael Carrick continues to be in caretaker charge of the North West giants. The club’s hierarchy have a big decision to make regarding the managerial situation. Carrick was named interim boss after their decision to sack Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United consider swoop for Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams

United could see Williams as someone to bolster their attacking department. If he joined, he would inject quality into their options at the top end of the pitch. In addition, he could battle it out with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for a place in their starting XI.

The Spain international, who has 30 caps to his name, has been a key player for Bilbao over recent times. At the age of 23, he still has bags of potential and has the capacity to further improve down the line. His current club won’t want to lose him though so are likely to hold out for a hefty price tag.

Williams has been on the books at San Mamés Stadium since 2013 and rose up through the academy. He broke into the first-team back in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since. The forward has made 193 appearances to date and has scored 35 goals.

Amid links with an exit last year, Williams said: "When it comes to important decisions, for me, the main thing is to listen to my heart. I am where I want to be, with my people. This is my home.”

United are aiming to get back into the Champions League this season. If Carrick manages to guide them back into Europe’s top competition, he will surely be a strong candidate for the full-time manager’s job. He has experience of being a number one from his days at Middlesbrough and will be eager to show more of what he can do over the coming weeks.
