Manchester United currently have no plans to offer Casemiro a contract extension ahead of his planned exit in the summer transfer window.

The 34-year-old shone again as United defeated Aston Villa in their race for Champions League qualification over the weekend. Casemiro opened the scoring for Michael Carrick's side, and was serenaded by supporters during the match, who chanted for him to stay for one more year.

Casemiro has already announced he will leave the club as a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the season. The former Real Madrid star wanted to give clarity on his future after it was revealed he would trigger a one-year contract extension if he were to start every remaining league match this season.

Manchester United could be tempted to perform a transfer U-turn and offer Casemiro a new one-year deal on reduced terms after his latest midfield masterclass. United have prioritised a midfield refresh this summer, which will be made even harder when they lose both the quality and leadership of the Brazil international.

"Casemiro already decided to move on at the moment," Romano said. "What I can tell you and what I can answer to Manchester United fans is that no one from the club has told Casemiro, 'please stay with us for one more season'. Let's see what's going to happen from now to the end of the season.

"Maybe these kind of situations could happen at the very end of the season, when you are maybe sure about the project you're going to do and continue in terms of manager, in terms of Champions League football and all the rest. But at the moment, still, nothing changed between Casemiro and United."
