Peter Schmeichel and Wayne Rooney both make new Man Utd and Michael Carrick predictions after 3-1 Aston Villa win

Wayne Rooney and Peter Schmeichel have revealed their current feelings for the remainder of Manchester United’s Premier League season under Michael Carrick.

Both Peter Schmeichel and Wayne Rooney reacted in the aftermath of Manchester United’s stunning 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in Sunday afternoon’s thrilling clash.

Michael Carrick watched on from the Old Trafford dugout as Man Utd broke the deadlock against Aston Villa after a superb second-half header from Casemiro.

Ross Barkley cancelled out Casemiro’s opener with Villa’s equaliser, but Matheus Cunha restored the Red Devils’ lead before Benjamin Sesko netted as well.

Peter Schmeichel makes a bold Man Utd and Man City claim after Michael Carrick’s men beat Aston Villa at Old Trafford

Michael Carrick ensured that the Red Devils returned to winning ways after Manchester United’s 2-1 setback defeat against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

United’s win over Aston Villa allowed the Red Devils to open a three-point margin between themselves and Unai Emery’s men in the race for the top four now.

Carrick’s side are third in the Premier League table and Man Utd are seven points adrift from second-place Manchester City with only eight matches remaining.

However, Peter Schmeichel argued that he is “serious” that the Red Devils could now “catch” Pep Guardiola’s men before the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

“It’s been painful. We’ve had two periods of 27 and 26 years; hopefully, we’re not going to wait that long [for the Premier League title],” he said on Viaplay, as per the Metro.

“Manchester United have come from not playing very well, not winning games, and then all of [a] sudden, playing better and having some really good games, but getting some points on the board.

“I’m looking and I’m serious, I think we can catch Man City. I think we can do that.

“Our form is much better; our winning form is much better. If you put all of that confidence into the squad, give Michael Carrick the job.

“Let him pick the players that he wants and I don’t think it necessarily is such a big gap to close.

“We could be talking one year, two years, three years before they’re competitive.”

Wayne Rooney makes a conservative Man Utd claim of Michael Carrick’s final eight matches compared with Peter Schmeichel

Rooney hailed the impact of former Man Utd and England teammate Carrick after the Red Devils secured a huge result against top-four-chasing Villa on Sunday.

United’s all-time leading scorer insisted that the Red Devils have put themselves in a strong position in their bid to secure Champions League football for next season.

“This was a massive win,” Rooney said on BBC Radio 5 Live, as per BBC Sport.

“Getting back into the Champions League, they’re in a strong position to get that and that helps financially for Manchester United moving forward.

“Beating Villa and with Chelsea also losing yesterday, it puts them in a really good place.”

United will now travel to the Vitality Stadium on Friday evening for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.
