Tottenham and West Ham given hope of striker deal – Nottingham Forest made January attempt

Jonathan David

Jonathan David

Jonathan David has had a difficult few months at Juventus. Tottenham, West Ham and Nottingham Forest can now be handed the chance to bring him to the Premier League.

The Canada international arrived in Turin on a free transfer after his contract with Lille ran out.

Since then, he has scored seven times in all competitions for Juve. In Serie A, he has five goals in 1222 minutes, which showcases his inconsistency. This led to him being dropped to the bench for Juve’s recent Serie A clash against Udinese.

He played only a minute in the tie, which is perhaps definitive of his situation at the Old Lady. Sport Witness covered doubts around his future last week, with Aston Villa also mentioned as a suitor.

Today,TuttoSport have looked at his situation, providing background around West Ham, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.

All three clubs have been in the mix for David

The newspaper reports the 26-year-old’s future in Turin is in doubt and there is every chance he leaves in the summer.

There is interest from France but a move to England is also a distinct possibility.

Tottenham and West Ham are believed to have come forward for him last summer. In January, Nottingham Forest also tried to sign him before they ended up with Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca.

Now, all three clubs are on alert over a possible deal, with Juve willing to listen to offers for David.

Marseille could be a potential avenue for the Canadian too. The French side have an excellent relationship with Juve and this can drive a summer deal.

David could prove risky for Tottenham, West Ham and Forest

A deal for Jonathan David is unlikely to be expensive because he joined Juve on a free transfer. Anything the Italian side earn would go down as a capital gain.

At 26-years-old he has every chance of stil fulfilling his undoubted potential. That doesn’t mean a move from Tottenham, West Ham or Nottingham Forest will come without risks.

Over the past few years, his output has dropped. In the 2022/23 season, David found the net 24 times in Ligue 1. This was reduced to 19 in the 2023/24 campaign and he scored 16 times last season.

That pattern is surprising, especially since David has never really had any major fitness problems. What the Canadian appears to need is a club and manager who can bring out his best.

Juventus signed him largely because he was a free agent. The idea was to then flip and sell to a Premier League club for a big profit. That route may still happen, but at a lower fee than hoped for.
