“What I Can Tell You”–Romano Issues Fresh Transfer Update As Man Utd Face Dilemma On£350K p/w Midfielder

**Casemiro will leave Man Utd when his contract expires as things stand, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.**

The 34-year-old has been in excellent form, scoring his 7th league goal of the season during the 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend.

When assessing whether United could make a U-turn and keep Casemiro this summer, Romano said that the current plan is still to allow the [**midfielder**](https://manunews.com/blog/man-utd-transfer-news-felix-nmecha-2/) to depart on a free transfer, although that decision could be revisited in the summer:

“Casemiro already decided to move on at the moment. What I can tell you and what I can answer to Manchester United fans is that no one from the club has told Casemiro, ‘please stay with us for one more season’. Let’s see what’s going to happen from now to the end of the season.”

“Maybe these kind of situations could happen at the very end of the season, when you are maybe sure about the project you’re going to do and continue in terms of manager, in terms of Champions League football and all the rest. But at the moment, still, nothing changed between Casemiro and United.”

Man Utd have an option to keep the midfielder

---------------------------------------------

While the Brazilian international’s contract does expire on June 30th, the Red Devils have the option to automatically extend it for another twelve months if they wish.

The reason why that hasn’t been done is due to Casemiro’s salary. He earns £350,000 a week, and the club are looking to cut the wage bill.

What would need to change for Casemiro to stay?

-----------------------------------------------

As Romano points out, the additional prize money from Champions League qualification would give United more financial flexibility.

On top of that, clarity on who the next manager will be is needed. United will want to know that the man in charge next season wants to keep Casemiro around. It means any potential U-turn would only happen very close to the expiration of his contract.
