Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand hit back at a journalist who recently claimed that Michael Carrick lacks the “charisma” to lead the club as permanent manager.
Super Michael Carrick
United returned to winning ways on Sunday as they beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford to consolidate their place in third.
The Red Devils’ unbeaten streak under Carrick was brought to an end last week at the hands of 10-man Newcastle, who stunned Carrick and his players at St James’ Park.
Carrick called on his players to deliver a response and they delivered in kind. Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all got on the score sheet to sink Villa.
Champions League qualification is now within touching distance for United and Wayne Rooney believes Carrick has earned himself the job on a permanent basis. Yet, despite the transformation he has overseen, there seems to be some pushback from certain sections against his appointment.
Roy Keane reaffirmed his stance on Sunday that United should look beyond Carrick, irrespective of whether or not he secures Champions League football.
Speaking on Sky Sports recently, journalist Craig Hope delivered a critical assessment of Carrick’s credentials, asserting that he lacks the charisma to lead United and that the club should pursue a more high-profile option.
As justification for his stance, Hope highlighted Carrick’s perceived lack of aggression and enthusiasm in the technical area during the game at St James’ Park.

But Rio Ferdinand was not having any of it and fired a pointed response at Hope in the aftermath of United’s triumph against Villa.
Ferdinand fires back
Ferdinand took to X to post an updated Premier League table showing United at the summit since Carrick took over as Ruben Amorim’s temporary replacement.
United lead the way with 22 points, one above Arsenal in second.
Ferdinand tagged Hope to get his attention while captioning the image with the sarcastic message, “Charismatic Carras.”

Speaking to reporters in his post-match press conference, Carrick explained that he hasn’t been paying attention to the noise surrounding his future. He revealed that he has been in regular communication with the hierarchy about improving the team.
