Tim Sherwood reveals what ‘baffled’ him during dramatic Crystal Palace vs Leeds United clash

Tim Sherwood reveals what "baffled" him in Leeds' recent game.

Leeds United continue to inch closer to Premier League survival after picking up a solid point away from home against Crystal Palace.

Before the game, most supporters would have taken a draw, but considering the circumstances Leeds had to battle through, with Gabriel Gudmundsson being sent off unjustly, the Whites did very well to hold on and keep a clean sheet in the second half.

Wayne Rooney is amongst the notable pundits to come out and defend Gudmundsson, with the former Manchester United player claiming that the Swedish defender’s sending off was “a disgrace.”

However, another controversial moment followed the red card, with former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood having his say on the incident.

Tim Sherwood left ‘baffled’ after Jaydee Canvot’s ‘disgraceful’ antics

When Leeds were down to ten men on the brink of half-time, Palace defender Canvot was seen to be celebrating the sending off like he had just scored the winning goal himself.

The player’s reaction prompted Leeds legends Simon Grayson and Dominic Matteo to label Canvot as “disrespectful” and “embarrassing” after the game.

This is a stance that was shared by Sherwood, who told Sky Sports: “I couldn’t believe what I was looking at, it’s a poor decision in the first place because it’s not a second yellow card for Gudmundsson. If he’d remembered booking him the first time, he’d have never sent him off for that.

“The Palace players got around him and said, ‘You’ve already given him a yellow’. But to celebrate like that is an absolute disgrace. What are you doing there? It baffled me, it really did.

“Why are you doing that? I just don’t like it. I think it’s disrespectful. If I was a Leeds player, I’d have said, ‘Grow up, mate, what are you doing?’

Sherwood continued: “What did it actually guarantee you? It didn’t guarantee them anything. They’d have lost the game if Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his penalty anyway. Just concentrate on playing football, all this nonsense has annoyed me.”

Data suggests Joe Rodon was exceptional against Crystal Palace

The entirety of United’s backline had to be at their best to keep their clean sheet intact after being reduced to ten men.

No player personified the fighting spirit Leeds showed more than Rodon, who was back playing as a wide centre back after Jaka Bijol was reinstalled in the heart of Leeds’ defence.

The Welshman was exceptional against Palace, and the data certainly reflected this.

Rodon won seven out of the ten duels he was involved in

He also managed to record 10 clearances during the game

Rodon also managed one key pass during the game at Selhurst Park (Sofascore)

Given how well United’s defence performed in the second half in particular against Palace, it would be wise of Daniel Farke to leave it unchanged ahead of Leeds’ game against Brentford at Elland Road.
