Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Manuel Ugarte and Sandro Tonali that you may have missed…
Pundit Gary Neville says he expects Manuel Ugarte to make way when Manchester United return to the transfer market to strengthen their midfield options in the summer.
Neville said he expects United to target another central midfielder at the end of the season as part of a broader squad rebuild. In his view, any new arrival in that area could push Ugarte down the pecking order despite the Uruguayan’s work rate and defensive qualities.
Ugarte, who joined Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain, has been used primarily as a holding midfielder tasked with shielding the defence and breaking up opposition attacks. While Neville acknowledged the midfielder’s energy and tackling ability, he questioned whether the current midfield balance provides enough creativity and control for a side aiming to compete at the top of the Premier League.
Neville argued that United’s midfield still lacks the technical authority and tempo-setting presence required to dominate games consistently. As a result, he believes the club’s recruitment team will prioritise strengthening that department once the summer window opens.
He explained: ‘I think Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are doing a great job right now for Michael Carrick, however, every United fan in this stadium knows that’s going to be nowhere near enough when United start playing in the Champions League next season, which is more than likely they will, and they don’t get knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in the first round.
‘They’re going to need three or four really good central midfielders. At the moment, they’ve got Mainoo who you can buy into, but you can’t really look at any of the others and think that’s going to work.
‘Casemiro is leaving and I think Ugarte will leave so they need two really good central midfield players. Probably one that’s more positional, maybe like a Michael Carrick-type, and one that is more of a destroyer.’
The eight-time Premier League winner went on: ‘Basically, they need those two players and that’s the next area of focus. I do think the back needs looking at but I think the midfield will be the real focus in the summer transfer window.’
With the summer transfer window approaching, Manchester United are expected to assess multiple areas of the squad. Midfield remains one of the positions most frequently linked with potential reinforcements, and Neville’s comments reflect the broader expectation that further changes could be on the horizon at Old Trafford.
Whether Ugarte ultimately retains his starting place may depend on both his performances in the coming months and the type of midfielder United choose to pursue in the market
£100M Tonali boost given
Sandro Tonali has reportedly set his sights on joining a club capable of competing for the Premier League title, according to comments made by his agent, Giuseppe “Beppe” Riso, sparking fresh transfer speculation involving Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Italian midfielder currently plays for Newcastle United, but his representative has openly discussed ambitions for the player to reach the very top level of the English game. Speaking in an interview with Italian media, Riso explained that Tonali’s move to England was always part of a wider plan to develop him into one of the world’s leading midfielders.
Riso said the objective from the moment Tonali arrived in England was “to try to make him a star player,” adding that the Italy international is now among the most valuable footballers from his country.
The comments have inevitably fueled speculation about the midfielders long-term future at Newcastle, particularly with several elite clubs monitoring his progress. Reports indicate that teams competing at the top end of the Premier League table — including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United— have been linked with potential interest, especially if Tonali continues to perform at a high level
Riso said: “Exactly, this was the objective since the moment he came to England: looking to become a top player. I think he’s one of the most valuable Italian players in the world right now.”
Tonali is hoping to help Italy qualify for the World Cup in this month’s play-offs. Asked if clubs such would be chasing Tonali if he impresses at the tournament, Riso added: “I’m not sure, but it’s very likely. Everyone’s waiting for the World Cup, then a thousand situations could arrive. But everything would start after the World Cup.”
Newcastle will fight to keep hold of Tonali
Despite the growing speculation, Newcastle remain in a strong position regarding the player’s future. Tonali signed a long-term contract extension that runs until at least 2029, meaning the club are under no immediate pressure to sell their midfield star.
Still, Riso’s remarks have added intrigue ahead of the upcoming transfer windows. The agent suggested that Tonali’s future could become clearer after major international tournaments, hinting that strong performances on the global stage could attract further interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.
For Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, the situation may represent a potential opportunity if Newcastle ever decide to entertain offers. All three clubs have been linked with midfield reinforcements as they plan their squads for the coming seasons.
For now, Tonali remains an integral part of Newcastle’s plans. But with his agent openly discussing ambitions to reach the very top of English football, the Italian international could become one of the most talked-about midfielders in the transfer market in the months ahead.
MADRID TO SELL CAMAVINGA
Real Madrid could reportedly allow midfielder Eduardo Camavinga to leave this summer if a fee of around £60 million is offered, a valuation that has alerted several Premier League heavyweights including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
According to multiple reports emerging from Spain and England, Madrid are open to listening to offers for the France international during the upcoming transfer window, despite the midfielder remaining under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2029.
Camavinga joined Madrid from Stade Rennais FC in 2021 and has since made more than 180 appearances for the Spanish giants, establishing himself as a versatile member of the squad capable of operating as a central midfielder, defensive midfielder or even left-back.
However, the intense competition for places in Madrid’s midfield has fuelled speculation about his long-term role. With players such as Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni considered key figures in the squad, reports suggest the club could sanction Camavinga’s departure if their valuation is met.
The potential availability of the dynamic midfielder has attracted attention from several Premier League sides. Manchester United have tracked Camavinga for some time and previously explored possible deals involving the Frenchman as part of negotiations between the clubs.
Arsenal have also been linked with the player in the past as they continue to strengthen their midfield options, while Chelsea are believed to be evaluating potential replacements for departing or ageing midfielders as part of their squad rebuild.
Camavinga remains highly regarded in Madrid, and club insiders insist he is still considered an important squad member when fully fit. Reports also indicate the midfielder himself has been content in Spain and focused on regaining full fitness and maintaining a role in the team.
Nevertheless, Madrid’s willingness to consider offers around £60 million has inevitably sparked speculation ahead of the summer window. Camavinga’s future could become one of the more closely watched transfer sagas of the coming months.
