Michael Carrick has given the green light to Manchester United bosses to complete their first transfer of the summer - by selling Tyrell Malacia.
Carrick may not even be the manager come the start of the 2026/27 season, but he is putting himself in a good position to be in with a shout of the job after guiding United into third place in the Premier League table with seven wins from his nine games in charge since replacing Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
United are likely to be active in the summer transfer window as they look to build on what Carrick has achieved in a short space of time and put themselves in a position to challenge for the Premier League title once more.

At least one new midfielder will arrive at the club, with Casemiro leaving at the expiration of his contract when the season ends. Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali remain the big names on the shortlist, but there may be changes in defence too.
Malacia is expected to leave United this summer after Carrick reportedly gave the green light for his exit.
The Dutch left-back, who has struggled for consistent game time and faced significant injury setbacks, is entering the final months of his contract and is likely to leave on a free transfer like Casemiro.
Following discussions regarding his role in the squad, it appears United are ready to move on, with Malacia likely to depart as a free agent or in a cut-price deal to make room for defensive reinforcements.
Tyrell Malacia Is Surplus To Requirements At Old Trafford
Tyrell Malacia
The 26-year-old has only made two appearances for the club this season - amassing just seven minutes of pitch time - following half a season on loan with PSV back in the Netherlands last season.
It had looked like he could move on last summer, with United open to a sale, but no interested parties came forward with an acceptable offer to get a deal done.
There was also a chance he could have moved on during the January transfer window, albeit only on loan again, but a move to Besiktas was blocked by United following an injury to Patrick Dorgu.
