Sergio Romero has decided to put an end to his career after his time at Argentinos Juniors came to an end.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero spent six years at Old Trafford, but for the most part, he was second choice to David de Gea.
Romero was widely regarded as a solid backup option and became a cult hero for his performances that led to United’s Europa League triumph in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.
The former Argentina international made 61 appearances for United, as well as 39 clean sheets, meaning he kept a clean sheet in nearly two out of every three games he played.

Sergio Romero eyes coaching after retirement
At 39 years old and after his final appearance for Argentinos Juniors, Romero has decided to end his career as a professional footballer and is already planning his immediate future.
None of the offers Romero received lately appealed because his family want to remain in Buenos Aires. That ultimately led to Romero’s decision to retire, as per Infobae.
It is understood that Romero has been preparing for retirement while playing for Boca Juniors, prior to his move to Argentinos Juniors.

The prospect of returning to Racing Club has been ruled out because Romero didn’t leave the club on good terms with the club’s management.
Speaking to La Derecha Diario months ago, Romero referenced two managers he worked with at United, including Louis van Gaal and Mourinho: “I have everything planned and put together for the moment I decide. I’m going to take the plunge without any problem. I watch a lot of soccer, I like to watch it in all countries and leagues, until promotion.
“My style as a coach? As Menotti said, football is about moments, names and adapting to your squad. Playing in Europe and being led by Van Gaal, Mourinho, Tata Martino and Alejandro Sabella gave me tools to find my way.”
It will be interesting to see if Romero looks to follow in Mourinho or Van Gaal’s footsteps as a first-team coach. It’s not something you see many goalkeepers do.
