"The strides we have taken": United chief predicts bright future for Women's team in spite of…

Manchester United Women have enjoyed a very successful season so far.

Strong season

Marc Skinner’s side are currently in second place in the Women’s Super League.

They also reached the final of their first ever League Cup but unfortunately lost 0-2 to Chelsea at the weekend.

What’s more, they have progressed to the quarter-finals of their first ever Champions League campaign, where they will face Bayern Munich in just a couple of weeks.

Omar Berrada

The club’s CEO, Omar Berrada, spoke to the club’s website about the success of the women’s team this season.

He explained, “although Sunday’s result is disappointing, it does not take away from the enormous progress this team continues to make. Reaching another major final shows the strides we are taking, and we are immensely proud of the players, staff for their incredible efforts, and supporters who have been with us every step of the way.”

Berrada also commented on the strength of the group that the club is building and claimed there is great belief that they can achieve something special together.

Matt Johnson

United’s Director of Women’s Football, Matt Johnson, also shared his thoughts.

Commenting on the season, he stated, “this team has shown outstanding resilience and growth throughout the season, and that was clear again on Sunday. Reaching a cup final and competing at this level is a sign of the direction we’re heading in. From our first Champions League campaign to our league performances, the players and staff have embraced every challenge.”

Despite the difficult defeat, Johnson claimed that simply reaching the final demonstrates how far the club has come in such a short period of time.

Head coach Marc Skinner was frustrated that his side could not punish Chelsea in the boxes, despite playing the better football in his view.

He did claim that his United side needed to harness that frustration and make it “fuel” the rest of the season, rather than finish on a whimper.
