Peter Schmeichel and Ben Foster both feel same way about Michael Carrick at Man Utd now after 3-1 Aston Villa win

Peter Schmeichel and Ben Foster are on the same wavelength when it comes to the future of Michael Carrick at Manchester United after the Aston Villa result on Sunday.

Michael Carrick oversaw the Red Devils return to winning ways and Manchester United strengthened their hopes of securing a top-four Premier League finish.

Goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko in the second half ensured that Man Utd sealed a 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

United’s result over fourth-place Aston Villa allowed the third-place Red Devils to open a three-point margin over Unai Emery’s top-four challenging side as well.

Ben Foster wants Michael Carrick to become the permanent Man Utd manager now

Manchester United bounced back from their defeat to Newcastle and the Red Devils carried on their impressive run of form under interim head coach Michael Carrick.

Carrick’s momentum during his Old Trafford spell as interim boss has led to calls that the United legend should become the Red Devils’ next permanent manager.

Speaking on his podcast, Ben Foster was deeply impressed with the 44-year-old former Middlesbrough manager’s impact as Man Utd’s interim head coach.

“I think Carrick is now in the Premier League, is it played 10, one eight drew one lost one, or something like that?” he said on the Fozcast podcast.

Foster quizzed his co-hosts over whether or not Carrick should be appointed permanently to the United manager role amid throwing his backing behind him.

“[…] Carrick, should he get the job? Michael Carrick for Man United: should he get the job? Yes or no?” Foster asked.

“I’m going to say yes. I’m going to say yes; we’ll leave it there.”

Man Utd legend Peter Schmeichel shared Ben Foster’s sentiments about Michael Carrick’s future at Old Trafford

Carrick was brought back to Old Trafford in January after Ineos made the major call to sack Ruben Amorim from his Man Utd head coach role.

The former Man Utd and England midfielder’s position as interim will last until the end of the 2025-26 season amid Ineos’ hunt for Ruben Amorim’s replacement.

Speaking on Viaplay, Peter Schmeichel felt the same way as former United shot-stopper Foster when it came to a potential permanent appointment of Carrick.

“We’ve tried everything, we’ve tried all the big names, we’ve tried all the guys with the clever systems,” he said, as per the Metro.

“We’ve tried all of that! Keep it simple. He knows the club and that would be simple for the players.

“At the moment, I’d say there are about 11 players that probably have a really long future at the club, so there’s also a really, really big job.

“We don’t know how good Michael Carrick is at that, but what he’s done fantastically well is to take those players that he’s had available and made them play good football.”

Carrick has won seven of his nine Premier League matches in charge as the Red Devils interim boss, with United’s only loss coming at the hands of Newcastle.
