Michael Carrick's coaching staff are succeeding in project with a player almost failed by Ruben Amorim - Opinion

Michael Carrick has been brilliant since he arrived as Manchester United boss, but so has his coaching staff, who joined alongside him.

After Manchester United beat Aston Villa on Sunday, Michael Carrick’s chances of being appointed permanent head coach shot right back up to pre-Newcastle highs.

If Carrick is to get the job, his coaching staff must also be retained.

This is because of the job they are doing with a player that Ruben Amorim had been failing for 14 months.

Have you been impressed with Michael Carrick’s coaching staff?

Would you keep them all if he becomes permanent?🤔

Ineos will be thrilled by Michael Carrick’s impact on Leny Yoro

When Manchester United spent £52m on Leny Yoro, he arrived as the next big thing in regard to defenders, and Ineos wouldn’t have expected him to end up stagnating and barely playing for Amorim.

This has all changed in recent weeks under Carrick and his coaching staff.

Particularly, Jonathan Woodgate is praised for his impact, as Harry Maguire claimed, and with each passing week, Yoro looks better and better.

Most notably, Yoro was brilliant against Villa in the win, playing with a composure that previously wasn’t present in his game, with his confidence clearly growing.

Yoro has been better in possession and out of possession. He has started to become unbeatable, stopping everything that is asked of him.

United considered Yoro as generational when signed, and now, after finally getting coaches to guide him, the Frenchman is proving exactly why he was thought of so highly.

Amorim once tipped Yoro as a future world beater, but despite this, Yoro didn’t develop under the Portuguese coach. Instead playing with the same naivety and erratic nature as he did at Lille.

But in just a few weeks with Woodgate and Jonny Evans under Carrick, Yoro looks every bit a world-class talent.

What are your expectations for Leny Yoro’s Man Utd career?

Carrick developing youngsters will tick a box for Manchester United

Ineos have been keen to sign young talents with big potential since taking charge of Manchester United’s footballing operations, and therefore whoever is appointed head coach needs to be able to develop them.

Carrick has proven himself willing and able to do this, with the help of his coaches, as Benjamin Sesko is another example of this, along with Kobbie Mainoo.

Ineos should be impressed, as Carrick does exactly what they will have wanted him to do, and it will go in his favour for his chances of getting the permanent job.

Ineos are likely to continue signing young high-potential players, so developing them will no doubt become a pivotal demand for whoever is appointed. But Carrick is already showing it.

This will also aid the academy, with the players seeing that they will grow as players in the first team, seeing Mainoo once more being platformed. Wayne Rooney claimed academy parents weren’t happy with Amorim.

If Carrick’s staff don’t end up getting the job, they will at least set new standards for whoever is appointed.
