Bruno would love him: Man Utd must hire 'best coach in the world' and forget all about Carrick…

Manchester United senior officials have been given a big conundrum when it comes to deciding who the club's next permanent manager should be.

While Red Devils chiefs would have been confident of Michael Carrick making a positive impact after appointing him as caretaker boss until the end of the season, the 44-year-old has likely exceeded their expectations.

If you look at the Premier League table since Carrick was announced as Ruben Amorim's temporary replacement, Man United are top having taken 22 points from a possible 27 available under the Tyne and Wear born coach.

The Red Devils have gone from being Champions League hopefuls under Amorim to being in pole position to qualify for Europe's elite club competition behind Arsenal and Manchester City, with their hopes further boosted by the win against fourth-placed Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Now, United decision-makers need to choose whether they stick with Carrick for the longer-term, or take advantage of a manager market that is likely to be volatile this summer.

Man United Considering Carrick Alternatives

While Carrick is clearly in contention to get the United job permanently, Old Trafford officials are also considering other names for their shortlist too.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, the Red Devils have discussed two managers set to star at the 2026 World Cup in Portugal's Roberto Martinez and Germany's Julian Nagelsmann, with the currently-available Roberto De Zerbi another strong candidate following his success with Marseille and Brighton and Hove Albion previously.

Two potential targets who United look unlikely to have a chance of landing are Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti, with the former already agreeing a new contract with England and the latter likely to do the same with Brazil.

Meanwhile, many senior Man United officials would love to appoint Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique, as he continues to enhance his already strong reputation at the Parc des Princes.

United Should Forget Carrick and Go All Out for Enrique

Since taking charge of PSG in 2023, Luis Enrique has delivered 10 trophies for the French club, including finally landing the Champions League for them last term.

After many years trying to achieve that feat with the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, the Spanish coach ended up doing it without any of them, and instead with a good team dynamic.

His 2025 was so good that he was named as The Best FIFA Men’s Coach at the end of December, outlining his status as the current best manager in the world.

Bruno Fernandes Would Love Him

While rumours continue over whether Bruno Fernandes will still be a United player next season after Saudi links, one man who does appreciate him is Enrique.

The 'best coach in the world' is reported to be a big fan of the Portugal international and has given the green light for PSG to try and sign him previously, showing how much he rates the 31-year-old.

Enrique has a knack of improving the attacking output of his forward line, with Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia among those who have been leading stars for him at the Parc des Princes.

The Spanish coach would likely build his United team around Fernandes, which is exactly the status he wants at Old Trafford as captain.

Now, Red Devils officials need to try and convince him to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
