Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has revealed that every player in the squad wanted Casemiro to remain at Old Trafford, as the veteran midfielder prepares to leave the club at the end of the season.
The Brazil international is expected to depart Manchester United when his contract expires this summer, bringing an end to a four-year spell with Manchester United. Although the club holds an option to extend the deal by a further year, reports indicate that both parties have already agreed he will move on once the current campaign concludes.
Despite that decision, Yoro said the squad had hoped the 34-year-old would stay for longer because of his influence on and off the pitch: “Everyone wanted him to stay; he’s a really important player for us,” Yoro said when discussing Casemiro’s future. “Even in the dressing room every day he has the experience that no one else has in the team. He won everything, so this helped us a lot in the games and outside the pitch.”
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 and has been a key figure in the midfield since his arrival. The Brazilian, a five-time Champions League winner, has made more than 150 appearances for the club and remains an influential presence within the squad.
The midfielder has enjoyed a productive final campaign, scoring seven league goals this season — the best return of his career in Europe’s top five leagues. Several of those goals have come from set-pieces, underlining his continued ability to impact matches even in the latter stages of his career.
Casemiro again demonstrated his value in Manchester United’s recent 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, a performance that prompted supporters at Old Trafford to chant “one more year” in recognition of his contributions.
However, the club’s stance on his departure appears unlikely to change. Head coach Michael Carrick acknowledged the midfielder’s influence but suggested the decision regarding his future has effectively already been made. Carrick praised Casemiro’s impact in big moments and highlighted the leadership he brings to the dressing room.
United’s leadership is believed to be planning a broader squad overhaul as the club looks to reshape its wage structure and invest in younger talent. Casemiro’s departure would therefore form part of a wider transition at Old Trafford heading into the summer transfer window.
For younger players like Yoro, though, the Brazilian’s presence has been invaluable. The French defender stressed that Casemiro’s experience and winning mentality have played an important role in guiding the squad during a challenging period of rebuilding.
While his exit now appears inevitable, the reaction from teammates highlights the respect Casemiro continues to command inside the Manchester United dressing room.
