Morocco has been announced as the AFCON winners after the final result against Senegal was overturned by CAF, meaning Noussair Mazraoui started the year by adding to his list of honours.
Manchester United had three players involved in AFCON this year.
They included Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui – with all three reaching the latter rounds of the competition, meaning they missed more Premier League games as a result.
Mazraoui reached the final before appearing to lose to Senegal in controversial circumstances. Morocco’s football federation announced it was pursuing legal action over the chaotic AFCON final based on the belief that the decision of Senegal’s players to leave the pitch, causing a 15-minute delay, had a material impact on the result.

Noussair Mazraoui is an AFCON winner after CAF U-turn
Senegal thought they had secured their second AFCON title after a 1-0 win at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
The only goal came through a Pape Gueye spot kick in the 94th minute.
The majority of Senegal’s players walked off in protest after receiving instructions from their manager Pape Thiaw. They eventually returned as Brahim Diaz missed the penalty kick that he thought ruined Morocco’s chances.

Mazraoui was the only player involved in the final, and leaving the pitch, he also would have thought that his AFCON dream was over after coming so close.
That, of course, isn’t the case because the CAF Appeals Board has stripped the title from Senegal, announcing Morocco as the winners.
It is noted that the appeal lodged by the Moroccan Football Federation was well-founded.

Noussair Mazraoui becomes latest Man Utd AFCON winner
Eric Bailly was the only player to win AFCON while under contract at United, but Mazraoui has now joined him on that list.
Other United players who won AFCON include Eric Djemba-Djemba.
It’s not a long list, but it’s now one Mazraoui believes he belongs part of.
