Gabriel Gudmundsson will not be in the Leeds United squad that will host Brentford on Saturday night due to a one-game suspension.

The Leeds defender was wrongfully dismissed after referee Thomas Bramall showed him a second yellow card just before the end of the first half in the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Several former players, including Wayne Rooney and Gary Lineker, have criticised the decision, and it appeared the referee had forgotten he had already shown the defender a yellow card earlier.

However, Crystal Palace star Jaydee Canvot’s celebration when the red card was brandished has attracted fierce criticism for unsportsmanlike behaviour on the pitch.

Keith Hackett slams the aftermath of the Gabriel Gudmundsson red card

Canvot looked horrible while celebrating Gudmundsson’s red card, and several players were left shocked by his reaction to a fellow professional getting dismissed.

Keith Hackett didn’t hold back and insisted that such scenes are unacceptable on the pitch, despite how competitive it can get between two teams in the Premier League.

He insisted that someone needs to have a word with Canvot and let him know how ridiculous he looked when he celebrated a player’s red card on the pitch.

Hackett told Football Insider: “I just think it’s unacceptable.

“Competition in Premier League games? Don’t worry about that. Things are part and parcel of the game.

“But celebrating a fellow professional getting a red card in this way, someone needs to whisper in his ear, ‘It just doesn’t look good’. It was unacceptable.”

Leeds have had bad luck with referees

Farke’s side have every right to feel frustrated after questionable refereeing decisions played a part in the outcome of their third straight league game.

Leeds will feel that, with better officiating, they might not have suffered home defeats to Manchester City and Sunderland before their trip to Palace.

Gudmundsson’s red card on Sunday clearly limited their ability to push for a win after the break, and in the end, they were relieved to come away with a point.

With the relegation battle heating up, Farke will be hoping for a bit of luck to finally swing in Leeds’ favour during the run-in.
