Peter Schmeichel makes powerful prediction for Man Utd's'biggest player'right now after past transfer interest

Peter Schmeichel has dropped his assessment over whether or not Bruno Fernandes will remain at Manchester United after Saudi Arabia’s interest in the player in 2025.

Bruno Fernandes has been on Saudi Arabia’s radar for some time and the 31-year-old Manchester United captain was tempted by a move away from the club.

Al-Hilal tabled a lucrative offer for Fernandes in the 2025 summer transfer window, with the Saudi Pro League side tipped to offer a fee between £80m and £100m.

However, Fernandes rejected Al-Hilal’s advances and the Portugal international remained at Old Trafford for the 2025-26 Premier League campaign instead.

Peter Schmeichel is convinced that Man Utd will keep hold of Bruno Fernandes amid Saudi Arabia’s transfer interest

According to Sky Sports in 2025, Al Hilal were prepared to ‘treble’ Bruno Fernandes’ £250,000-a-week Man Utd wages to sign him ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup.

Despite Fernandes remaining at the Red Devils for the current season, speculation has since mounted over his long-term future at the Premier League club.

Fernandes inked his last Manchester United contract in 2024 and will run through until 2027, with the Red Devils having an option to extend his deal by 12 months.

Speaking after Fernandes’ two assists for United in Sunday’s win, Peter Schmeichel was asked if he thinks the midfielder will remain at the club in the summer.

“Yeah, for sure,” he said on Viaplay, as per the Metro.

“If you think back to last summer, there was an opportunity to sell him to Saudi and the club would get about £100m for him.

“That would have helped enormously with the state of the financials at the club.

“Bruno said, ‘No! I don’t want to leave!,’ and he could have made a ton of money, but he loves the football club.”

Man Utd legend Peter Schmeichel thinks Bruno Fernandes won’t be tempted by Saudi Arabia’s interest this summer

United are believed to be keen to keep hold of Portugal midfielder Fernandes beyond the World Cup in North America this summer amid Saudi Arabia’s interest.

Red Devils legend Schmeichel cannot see Fernandes being lured away from Old Trafford in the summer after he turned down a big-money move in 2025.

“Having made that decision last summer, I cannot see anyone tempting him with whatever: better club, more money,” he added.

“I think he loves it here. He’s the captain, he’s the biggest player here and the fans absolutely love him. I just can’t see it.”

Man Utd captain Fernandes has taken his Red Devils assist tally to 16 in 27 matches alone in the Premier League in the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.
