Man Utd goalkeeping scout Tony Coton is looking to repeat Senne Lammens success as wonderkid identified

Senne Lammens is Man Utd’s biggest success story of the transfer window, and they have their goalkeeping scout, Tony Coton, to thank for it.

However, the work never stops at Man Utd, and the man credited with discovering Senne Lammens is already trying to repeat that trick.

Tony Coton has been spotted en route to discovering another goalkeeping wonderkid recently.

After the success of Lammens, Coton’s reputation is at its peak, and he could really hammer it home with his latest find.

With Lammens and Radek Vitek, the club’s goalkeeping ranks look fairly secure, but the long-term outlook is a bit dicey.

Tom Heaton is on the brink of retirement, Andre Onana won’t be welcomed back, and Altay Bayindir could look elsewhere for a starting spot.

The goalkeeping ranks in the academy aren’t that well-stocked either, with Cameron Byrne-Hughes an exciting prospect, but his height holds him back.

Enter Tony Coton on his latest scouting mission, as The Daily Mail reports that he was recently watching Swansea’s young goalkeeper Kit Margetson.

It’s not the first time Coton has scouted Margetson, with the scout tracking the youngster earlier this month.

He will have come away clearly very impressed with Margetson, which prompted him to return to his games, so he will want to continue leaving a mark to convince Coton of his qualities.

Aged just 19, Margetson came through the ranks at Swansea and is currently in the middle of the first senior football loan spell of his career at Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads FC.

Margetson has made quite an impression in Wales, starting every league game for the side competing at the top of the table, placing second.

He has conceded 33 goals in 28 appearances in the league, and his ability to play with both feet is exciting.

Margetson signed his professional terms with Swansea in 2023, and his contract expires in the summer, so he could be a nice buy-low option for United to take a bet on.

Margetson is unlikely to be a first-team signing

Despite impressing on the first loan spell of his career, Man Utd fans will need to temper their expectations with Margetson if he arrives in the summer.

He is likely to be the U21s goalkeeper now that Vitek has established himself in senior football.

Byrne-Hughes might go out on loan, Dermot Mee’s contract is inching towards expiry, while the futures of Bayindir, Heaton, and Onana have already been covered above.

Margetson is likely to be a first-team training goalkeeper like Mee at first, also playing the U21s fixtures.

If he arrives with Coton’s recommendation, he will already be highly rated because of Coton’s pedigree of having an eye for brilliant goalkeepers.

The rest will be up to him if he can continue to solidify the legacy of the man who is discovering him by surpassing expectations at the club.
