Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann and former Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi have thrown their hat into the ring to become Man Utd’s next permanent manager, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that both have signalled to the Red Devils they are “keen” on succeeding interim Michael Carrick in the Old Trafford dugout.
Nagelsmann’s contract with Germany expires after the World Cup and it seems he is open to returning to club football.

The 38-year-old won the Bundesliga title and two German Super Cups during his time with Bayern Munich. De Zerbi, meanwhile, has only won two minor trophies as a manager – the Serie C Cup and the Ukrainian Super Cup.

Previous reports have suggested that the Italian has backing among some in the hierarchy at Old Trafford, despite his relatively modest achievements as a manager.
De Zerbi won plenty of plaudits during his time at Brighton, with even Pep Guardiola waxing lyrical about his coaching abilities.
While things did not work out for him at Marseille, he has already been linked with another Premier League job – Tottenham.
Man Utd have looked at 3 other options
TEAMtalk say that Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Enrique, England manager Thomas Tuchel and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone have also made United’s shortlist.
However, the trio are not deemed to be likely candidates. Neither Enrique nor Simeone have shown any interest in leaving their current posts.
Tuchel, on the other hand, has effectively ruled himself out of taking another job, having signed a new deal with England, keeping him in charge of the Three Lions until after Euro 2028.
For now, it appears Carrick’s main rivals for the permanent position are Nagelsmann and De Zerbi, although other names could still enter the fray.
