This 18th century coachhouse has a vast central bar that acts as an orbit for drinkers looking to enjoy cheap beer and watch football on the huge projector screen. The size of this pub means that it is never too busy and you'll always have a decent view.

Vibrant and cosy with a pub quiz every Thursday if you don't fancy watching the Europa League, the Black Bull is a bustling pub on the Grassmarket. It's a live sport pub, as opposed to a pub that shows live sport, if you get us, with a resident DJ there of an evening if you stick around long enough. Seven screens is enough, right?

If you’re after a chilled out, craft ale vibe, we can’t recommend higher than Leeds’ very own Brudenell Social Club. Pool tables, darts, benches strewn across the car park and live music in an adjoining room, probably, the Brude is a great place to kill a few hours as the sun sets, whether it be inside or out. A wonderfully friendly and local atmosphere with all the charm of a northern social club, there’s a real mix of clientele. Another packet of scampi fries please, barkeep.

There are beer gardens and there is The Original Oak beer garden. Some watering holes claim to have a beer garden and it turns out to be a rickety bench upon which there’s an old pisshead making a strong case for lifelong sobriety. Not the Oak. Its garden is ‘uge, with a capital ‘U. Big screen at one end, spitting distance from local amenities and benches to seat the five thousand - it’s biblical. Yes, it’s situated in the heart of Leeds’ Headingley suburb, which is saturated with students, but it’s the summer and before long they’ll have all scuttled off back to the Home Counties. FFT have never struggled to get a seat there. Come one, come all.

Landlady Carol is one of the nicest people you will meet and may cook you some garlic bread if you ask nicely: otherwise you can settle for pints under £6 and the Charlton-mad locals. It's down a side street, meaning you only get serious pub-goers in there and on Saturday's, you still get a fishmonger swing buy selling jellied eels, cockles and welcks.

First things first, this is a rugby pub. But with the Six Nations long gone by the summer months, it’s a football-friendly zone. Not blessed with an abundance of screens but plenty of atmosphere and more than enough on tap to keep you World Cup-addled fanatics satiated through your Mexico-South Africas and your Cape Verde-Saudi Arabias.

A fantastic independent pub nestled in Fitzrovia close to Goodge Street station, with traditional carpets and mahogany bars serving Adnams beer. The landlord has been in charge for decades, and his West Ham season-ticket son now runs the bar. You'll swap tourists and expensive pints for interesting locals and comfortable leather benches. FourFourTwo watched England beat Colombia on penalties here during the 2018 World Cup, and it was one of the best nights of our life.

An Edwardian boozer centred around a big round bar with saloon rooms, the small televisions keep bigger crowds away, meaning you can watch the football in peace. A hidden gem so close to London Bridge.

A stone's throw from London Bridge station, this pub has remained true to its utilitarian roots. It's a pub that serves booze, nothing more nothing less. Guinness is good and cheap, as are the other options. Hidden away so often not as busy as you'd expect, big screens at either end make watching the football easy.

Screens. Screens! I’m blind Dec, I’m blind! Akenside Traders is your Newcastle Quayside one-stop shop for live sport this summer. There isn’t a seat in the house where you cannot see the game. We’ve tried. We’ve sat in every seat. A better viewing experience than Goodison. Not to mention, it’s in a wonderful location, a stone’s throw from the River Tyne, Dean Street’s assortment of restaurants and, if you’re of an age where it’s still appropriate to be hitting the Toon, more night life than pastry flakes left on your jumper when eating a Greggs sausage roll.

When England beat Panama in the 2018 World Cup, FourFourTwo watched from the Kings Arms in Norfolk. At half-time, the bar staff came around the pub offering up free pork and stuffing rolls for us to enjoy. Does it get any better than that?

Essentially a two-for-one, this, that trades as The Murderers and The Gardeners arms – as Partridge himself would claim, “Yes, it's an extender” – this is an establishment with a long history and it's known for its live sport coverage. Good selection of ales, great location and an old feel to the inside. Aha, indeed.

Home to The Big Shed fanzone and the biggest outdoor screen in the Midlands, this is the place to go if you've not got a ticket for the Forest game. Aside from the fanzone, however, it's a Victorian pub with four big screens and chippy tea. We love us some versatility.

It's really easy to miss St Aldates Tavern in Oxford: it's essentially by the buses near George Street, though, so you won't have to trek to Cowley or Jericho if you're meeting friends in the centre of Oxford. The city's nicest independent pub for watching the game is beautiful from the outside, with an upstairs area with a big screen. The Westgate is just down the road, too, if you fancy dinner at Dirty Bones.
