Brighton vs Liverpool in the Premier League from the Amex Stadium - Saturday, 12.30pm
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has taken a firm approach with Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas.
The £30m summer signing has made just two starts in the Premier League this season from his 16 appearances. He has featured for just 294 minutes in the top flight but has shown glimpses of his huge potential with two goals and one assist.
Kostoulas missed out on the matchday squad for the 1-0 home loss against Arsenal and was also nowhere to be seen last Saturday in the 1-0 win at Sunderland.
The former Olympiacos man will now hope to impress Hurzeler this week in training as he pushes to be involved against Premier League champions Liverpool at the Amex Stadium this Saturday.
Hurzeler’s clear culture
"It's important that we have a clear culture here," said Hurzeler when addressing Kostoulas prior to the Sunderland match.
"Everyone has to drive this culture and therefore there are certain moments where we need to give the players an understanding of what I demand from them. Of what I want to see from them in every training session."
Kostoulas has his work cut out as Danny Welbeck is currently the main man in attack, with Georginio also an option. Matt O'Riley, Jack Hinshelwood, Diego Gomez and Pascal Gross are also ahead of Kostoulas as they battle for the No 10 role.
Hurzeler added: "Especially when we have that high availability. Everyone has to train every day on his highest level. Everyone has to show his best every day.
Two players trained better than Kostoulas
"There were one or two players who just trained better than him [Kostoulas] before the game against Arsenal.
"Therefore I stick to my principle, I stick to the culture because, long term, the culture always wins. That was just the decision.
"It was not a decision against Babis, it was a decision for the other players and tomorrow there will be a new opportunity for him to get into the squad and show that he learned from the things that happened before."
