Why Brazil legend Claudio Taffarel is leading John Victor’s Nottingham Forest recovery

John Victor hasn’t played for Nottingham Forest since injuring his knee in a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in January.

The goalkeeper was handed a chance to shine when Matz Sels picked up an injury in November and didn’t perform too badly when called upon.

What is your score prediction for Nottingham Forest’s trip to Tottenham?

Victor has now been forced into a period of treatment, and with Stefan Ortega added to the ranks in January, it remains to be seen whether Victor will play for Forest again.

Intriguingly, it’s been confirmed that Victor has undergone a strange treatment plan overseen by a Brazilian goalkeeping legend.

Claudio Taffarel watching John Victor progress

According to Brazilian journalist Cahe Mota, Taffarel is keeping Victor’s progress in his mind as Brazil prepare to make their squad announcement for the World Cup in the summer.

Victor has been called up by Brazil previously, and it’s claimed that mid-April has been earmarked for the goalkeeper to return to action.

Taffarel previously worked as Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach, and clearly, he understands the physical demands placed on players in the Premier League.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Intriguingly, Victor’s recovery isn’t taking place at Forest, with former club Botafogo helping him out with his rehabilitation in a peculiar situation.

Victor is dreaming of the World Cup, however, and with Taffarel watching him closely, perhaps he can be the eyes and ears for Carlo Ancelotti.

With Sels now fit and Ortega at the football club fighting back from a minor injury, Victor’s chances of another outing do feel slim.

Once again, this looks like another Brazilian goalkeeper who hasn’t worked out following Carlos Miguel’s time at the club last season, and perhaps Forest have to adopt a different transfer strategy next season if survival is secured.
