Sandro Tonali has once again emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester United this summer. The Italy international's future continues to be a topic of speculation as the next transfer window fast approaches.
United have been heavily linked with signing a new midfielder for some time, and those rumours are likely to intensify as the summer transfer window gets ever closer.
Casemiro is expected to leave United this summer when his contract expires, which is fuelling rumours that Tonali could be a target for the Reds as they look to strengthen their midfield.
A report in the i has claimed that United still have an interest in signing Tonali, who is reported to have been valued at more than £100million last summer.
Newcastle have proven to be strict with their price valuations in the past, having stood to their price tag for Alexander Isak last summer, who eventually joined Liverpool in a deal worth £125m, a British transfer record.
The report claims that United may need to sell three players in order to help raise funds to be able to sign Tonali this summer.
Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Manuel Ugarte are the three players mentioned in the report as who could help boost United’s transfer kitty and fund a move for Tonali.
Hojlund is on loan at Napoli, which includes an obligation to buy, and the club have since outlined their commitment to signing the United striker on a permanent basis this summer.
Rashford is also on loan away from United, spending the season at Barcelona and there is growing expectation that a permanent deal will be completed in the summer.
Ugarte joined United in the summer of 2024 to link up with former manager Erik ten Hag, but has been restricted to 22 appearances across all competitions this season, including just seven starts in the Premier League.
The report adds that Ugarte is a player of interest to unnamed clubs in Turkey, and it’s not stated how much United would demand for the midfielder, who was signed for £50m almost two years ago.

Tonali is reported to be under contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2029, with his current terms not including a release clause, meaning United would need to negotiate a fee with the Magpies in order to bring the Italy international to Old Trafford.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was recently quizzed about Tonali’s future, particularly if the midfield finds himself unsettled amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
"The person that matters the most is Sandro,” Howe told Chronicle Live. “All I've ever seen from him is someone who is totally committed.
"Very selfless at times, he's here for the team, not for himself. Forget the noise around him, he's just fully committed."
