Coventry City have eight games to secure their return to the Premier League after a 25 year wait.

History is tantalisingly close and they will hopefully get the job done early. Sitting pretty at the top of the Championship, the Sky Blues are seven points ahead of second place Middlesbrough and nine off third and fourth placed Ipswich and Millwall.

But with 24 points left to play for (27 for the Tractor Boys, who have a game in hand) there’s still the potential for things to flip in the final run-in. That would take a huge dip in form from Frank Lampard’s men, of course, allied with a successful sequence of results from their main rivals, all of whom have to play each other in the final run-in and, therefore, will undoubtedly take points off each other.

Millwall’s next two fixtures are away at Portman Road and the Riverside – games that could put a dent in any three of the clubs’ progress at such a crucial time of the campaign.

For Coventry, they have four games at the CBS Arena where last weekend’s loss to Southampton was only the club’s second defeat on home soil this term. So confidence will be high that they can take maximum advantage from games against Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Wrexham. The four away trips start with Swansea this weekend, followed by Hull, Blackburn and Watford.
