Unai Emery
Douglas Luiz has had a fruitful time at Aston Villa so far but his permanent stay in Birmingham is likely to hinge on one key factor.
The move to the Villans came right after the Brazilian couldn’t really make a mark during a loan at Nottingham Forest.
Juventus, who have been desperate to part ways, loaned him out to Aston Villa and also handed an option to buy to Unai Emery’s side.
So far this season, the midfielder has played seven times in the Premier League, already featuring for close to 500 minutes. He had less minutes than this during his time at the City Ground, which shows how things are far better now.
Now,Tuttomercatoweb have looked at the conditions that can push through his permanent transfer to Villa Park.
Emery’s future key for Douglas Luiz
The outlet appear certain that if Unai Emery stays at Aston Villa, the Brazil midfielder will also join permanently.
The two have had an excellent relationship for quite a while now. Douglas Luiz was key for the Spaniard during his first spell before he moved to Turin. It is no surprise that his best is coming under Emery again and it is bringing his career back on track.
Secondly, there is also the condition of Aston Villa’s qualification for the Champions League. A failure to make it can bring about doubts over the deal.
Aston Villa happy with option to buy
TMW believe Unai Emery’s side are happy with the €25m option to buy that exists in the deal. They are also satisfied about the bonuses worth €3m that will have to be paid if Douglas Luiz keeps impressing.
The €25m is payable across three financial years and this can actually help Aston Villa, when it comes to amortising the amount.
These terms were agreed back in January and would help Juve recoup what they initially paid for the 27-year-old in 2024.
This is slightly different to what TuttoSport reported last week.Sport Witness picked up those claims, which were sure that the Midlands club would seek a discount from the Bianconeri.
Deal will help Juventus and Aston Villa
Douglas Luiz’s permanent move back to Birmingham will help all parties involved.
He’s happy again at Aston Villa and close to his best. This wasn’t the case at Juventus, where he looked like a shadow of himself tactically and physically.
The Bianconeri’s deal for the player was worth around €50m. Their best shot at earning as much as possible from his departure is his return to the Premier League.
Besides, Aston Villa need a viable back-up for Boubacar Kamara, who has faced regular injury worries. Douglas Luiz is showing he is more than capable and attempts should be made to keep him at the club.
