Leeds United issue half-time plea to fans with plan for special presentation during Brentford…

Leeds United have revealed that one of the club’s all-time legends will be honoured at Elland Road in a special presentation on Saturday night when Brentford visit.

Legendary ex-Leeds forward Mick Jones is to be presented with a lifetime achievement award and will become the first ever former player to receive a heritage cap. The presentation is to take place at half-time on the Elland Road pitch, during the Premier League game against the Bees. Jones was one of the ‘Revie Boys’ who won a pair of league titles and experienced European glory during the club’s most successful era. Leeds fans have been asked to remain in their seats at the interval to honour Jones.

A club statement said: “Leeds United are delighted to announce legendary forward Mick Jones will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award and will become the first ever former player to receive a Heritage Cap. The presentation will be made at half-time of our Premier League fixture with Brentford on Saturday, where Jones will be welcomed onto the pitch, alongside his family.

“Part of the legendary Don Revie side, Jones scored the winning goal of the 1968 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final, to earn the club a first European major honour. Alongside this, Jones helped Leeds win two league titles in 1968/69 and 1973/74 finishing as the club’s top scorer in both seasons, the Charity Shield in 1969, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup for a second time in 1971, and the FA Cup in 1972, for which he assisted Allan Clarke’s match winner. In total, Jones made 312 appearances for Leeds, scoring 111 goals, from 1967-1975, and also won three England caps.

“As part of Marching on Forever, the club’s former players association established in late 2025, former players will be recognised for their contribution and issued with a specially-made Leeds United Heritage Cap, of which Jones will be the first to be awarded this weekend. A fitting recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, the club encourages supporters to stay seated during half-time, to show your appreciation for a true Leeds United legend.”

Leeds announced in December that they were launching Marching on Forever, a former players association to connect generations of ex players and celebrate the club’s history. Tony Dorigo is leading the formation of the group. The First Division title winner said: “It is great Leeds United have agreed to set up a former players association, this is a proud day in the club’s history. So many clubs throughout the country have launched former player associations, particularly over the last decade and there are so many success stories within them.

“I’m looking forward to meeting and working with as many former players as possible who have been fortunate to call Elland Road home and I can’t wait to get started.”
