Leeds United hero Mick Jones will become the first ever former Whites player to be handed a club heritage cap, during Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brentford.
Jones, who scored 111 goals in 312 appearances between 1967 and 1975, is being recognised with a lifetime achievement award and, as part of a new initiative, will become the first recipient of a Leeds heritage cap during the half-time break.
Marching On Forever, the club’s former players’ association that was formed just before Christmas, will start issuing specially-made legacy caps to the greats of yesteryear, beginning with Jones this weekend.
The 80-year-old - who earned three caps for England - will take to the pitch with his family during the half-time interval, with supporters being encouraged to stay inside the stadium bowl.

Jones was part of the iconic Don Revie squad that won Leeds United their maiden European trophy, scoring the winning goal against Bulgarian club Ferencváros in the 1968 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final.
The attacker lifted two league titles with Leeds, in 1969 and 1974, finishing as the top scorer in both seasons. Between these two triumphs came the famous 1972 FA Cup final win, in which he assisted Allan Clarke’s winner. He also lifted the 1969 Charity Shield and a second Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1971.
A club statement explained: “Leeds United are delighted to announce legendary forward Mick Jones will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award and will become the first ever former player to receive a Heritage Cap.
