Courtois ‘doubtful’ against Atlético de Madrid with groin injury

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was forced to leave the team’s match against Manchester City in the return leg of the Champions League’s Round of 16 with a minor groin injury he picked up during his warm-up routine at the Etihad Stadium. As of right now, Courtois is considerded ‘doubtful’ for Sunday’s Madrid Derby against Atlético de Madrid.

If that ends up being the case, backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin would defend Real Madrid’s goal against Simeone’s team in what will be a crucial LaLiga game for Los Blancos, who still need to erase Barcelona’s current four-point lead in the table.

Either way, it looks like Courtois’ injury isn’t serious, so he should be fresh and ready to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League Quarterfinals, which will kick off on April 7th.
