Talks imminent: West Ham pushing to sign £38m "machine" with Nuno eyeing cut-price summer deal

West Ham United are set to step up their transfer pursuit of a "machine", having scheduled talks ahead of the summer transfer window.

West Ham making plans for the summer amid uptick in form

Although West Ham remain in the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference, Nuno has managed to instigate a turnaround since the middle of January, picking up victories against Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Fulham.

A point against title-chasing Manchester City is certainly nothing to be sniffed at either, and the manager was pleased by the way in which his side defended, saying: "It was a very good defensive performance. I would say it was heroic from our boys."

Not only did Konstantin Mavropanos help keep things tight at the back for the Hammers, but he was also the difference-maker at the opposite end of the pitch, scoring the equalising goal in the 1-1 draw.

The Hammers have looked more solid at the back at times over the past few weeks, keeping clean sheets against Fulham and AFC Bournemouth, which coincides with Axel Disasi establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet since arriving on loan from Chelsea.

West Ham schedule talks to sign Disasi permanently

Although it is still early days for Disasi, who has made just six Premier League appearances, he has clearly done enough to win over West Ham, with a report from Football Insider revealing they have scheduled talks to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

The Hammers are pushing to secure the Frenchman's signature, and Nuno is hoping for a cut-price agreement, given that his side are unable to match the £38m the Blues forked out to sign the centre-back from AS Monaco.

A deal will only be possible if Nuno's side avoid the drop, but they currently remain in 18th place, with Nottingham Forest picking up a 0-0 draw at home against Fulham at the weekend.

West Ham had kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League all season prior to the Frenchman's arrival, but they have since prevented the opposition from scoring in three of their last six matches, which suggests he's made an instant impact.

The Hammers could lose him even if they stay up.

Fellow defender El Hadji Malick Diouf likes what he's seen from the Chelsea loanee, saying: "He played for Chelsea, so he knows the league. It was crazy he stayed for such a long time and he didn't play, but when he came here, he showed that he's a machine!

"I'm really happy for him. He's a good defender and I think he helped us a lot."

Should West Ham avoid relegation, they should make a move for Disasi, but it wouldn't be a surprise if there is rival interest, considering he is definitely putting himself in the shop window with his performances.
