Man Utd fans have very split views on Leny Yoro with positive comparison made, and concern expressed

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro is the topic of plenty of debate during his second season at the club.

When Ineos struck a £52 million deal to sign Leny Yoro in 2024, it was seen as a potentially transformational signing.

Well, transformation does not happen overnight, and United fans are watching a young prospect grow up and develop in real time, under intense pressure.

Yoro was signed by Erik ten Hag but a pre-season injury meant he only made his competitive debut under Ruben Amorim.

Amorim’s spell was not easy for anybody, with Yoro tasked to learn to play in a back three.

Now under Michael Carrick, Yoro is adjusting to playing as a two – but this means competition for places is more intense.

All conversations about Leny Yoro must be viewed through the prism that he is still only 20-years-old.

And with that in mind, there has been plenty of debate on TalkingPoints about Leny Yoro’s progress and potential.

Manchester United fans on Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro has had a run of games recently and started again in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa. He proved Michael Carrick was right to stick with him over Ayden Heaven.

Following the victory at Old Trafford, one fan wrote how he is confident Yoro will ‘continue to improve’, and pointed to his relative inexperience.

We asked what Yoro’s potential ceiling can be, and one supporter gave the bold prediction that he can emulate two of United’s greatest ever centre-backs.

There is a long way for Yoro to go to reach Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic levels. He needs a lot of good fortune – and there are some elements of his game he needs to refine.

One fan recently pointed to Crystal Palace’s goal against United where Maxence Lacroix lost Yoro at a corner to score.

They wrote that Yoro must improve his man marking at set pieces, but expressed confidence that he can improve.

Another fan was not so positive, labelling Yoro ‘bang average’ and pointing to multiple areas he must improve, including his passing.

United In Focus writer Vatsal Gupta offered a more positive take, arguing that Yoro can eventually be world class, praising his mentality and physical development.

Another fan praised Yoro’s ‘very good’ performance against Aston Villa and wants this to continue, but noted that the Frenchman has been ‘completely absent’ on too many occasions this season.

Another supporter left a comment expressing that he feels Yoro has just been ‘OK’, and has preferred Ayden Heaven’s contribution when he has played this season.

Leny Yoro has just conducted an interview with Manchester United’s official channels, in which he talked about the challenge of adapting from Ligue 1 football to the Premier League.

Yoro explained: “It’s more [testing] physically about every time you have to run like box to box and stuff.

“So, I’m going to say the game is maybe quicker. Like every, every player has a big talent.”

Yoro has also praised the defensive help provided by Jonathan Woodgate, part of Michael Carrick’s coaching staff.

We do extra training with them and, of course, with the experience they have, they give us some tips, some things to improve.

“For me and Ayden, this is really important.”
