Millwall star Femi Azeez has been linked with a Premier League move and has responded about his future.
Crystal Palace may have their work cut out if planning to lure Millwall winger Femi Azeez across London this summer with the player speaking out about his future.
The Eagles have earned a reputation as the go-to place for Championship talent to make the step up to the top flight thanks to the success of Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton in recent years.
That hasn’t quite happened yet for former Millwall winger Romain Esse, who switched to Selhurst Park just over a year ago. However, the Eagles could come knocking at the door of The Den again this summer.
That’s according to Football League World, with Leeds United and Everton also said to be monitoring the former Reading man. The 24-year-old has picked up eight goals and eight assists this season, despite enduring three separate periods on the sidelines due to injury.
Azeez looks to have the credentials to make it in the Premier League one day. However, speaking to Sky Sports, the winger appeared to play down transfer talk rather than send potential suitors a ‘come get me’ message.
Femi Azeez addresses Millwall future amid Crystal Palace links
He said: "It has been a long road to get here but I'm still only 24. I've got plenty of years left in the game.
"Sometimes I do remind myself I'm not the finished product just yet, so I've got plenty of years to grow. I put in the work and I want to reach my potential, but also surpass my potential.
"It is exciting to think what could happen, but I don't want to look too far ahead because if you look too far ahead you can kind of live in a fantasy land. My mind and my mental state is just to keep grounded, keep working hard and just keep improving every day. That's the main thing."
Azeez could achieve Premier League status with Millwall next season. Alex Neil’s side sit fourth in the second tier, just two points off the automatic promotion places.
Speaking about the player in October, Neil had said: “He carried a real threat in the game, good ball with his left foot. He’s got a real good quality in terms of the final third areas. He’s a threat.
“He’s wanted to play on the right for a while. Last year, because we played two centre-forwards, we needed that left foot to go outside and put quality crosses in. Hence, the reason why the strikers scored quite a lot of goals. But I felt because we were playing with one striker, I knew Zak Sturge would step in on the left, and that allowed Femi to play on the right, and he certainly delivered, so fair play to him.”
