Ineos are already making moves ahead of the summer window, entering ‘advanced talks’ for a Premier League midfielder who comes highly recommended but with a caveat.
Every Man Utd fan knows that midfield is the urgent priority position for the club ahead of the window, and UCL qualification can boost their prospects of getting multiple of those.
If Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are any indication, Ineos clearly want to shop in the “Premier League-proven” market.
It would be even better if that PL-proven star comes highly recommended, and they’re already in advanced talks with him, but a Leny Yoro scenario is threatening to materialise.

Man Utd in ‘advanced talks’ for Bruno Guimaraes
Sandro Tonali has gathered the bulk of rumours when it comes to Man Utd’s midfield revamp, but a huge update on Bruno Guimaraes has just arrived.
The Brazilian came personally recommended by Casemiro, and that seems to have prompted Ineos to act quickly.
Respected outlet Reuters reports that Guimaraes is already in ‘advanced talks’ with Man Utd, who are exploring a move worth €80m.

United’s position will strengthen further after Newcastle’s UCL elimination, with the Magpies not looking like they’ll qualify for the competition next season.
It’s fair to say that if Guimaraes is already in advanced talks, the chase for Tonali will take a backseat because Newcastle won’t sell their first-choice midfield to a team they consider their rivals.
However, that’s not the only caveat, because even in the Guimaraes chase, they are looking at a potential repeat of the Leny Yoro scenario.
Man Utd must resist Leny Yoro scenario repeat with Guimaraes
The same report by Reuters claims that United’s chase for Guimaraes is complicated by Real Madrid’s entering the scene with clarity.

Like Casemiro, Carlo Ancelotti has also recommended Guimaraes to president Florentino Perez, and the move appeals to the Brazilian.
The report states that United remain ahead in the race so far because there is mutual interest, but his head could eventually be turned by Madrid.
What United can’t do is enter in a transfer tug of war and try to blow Madrid’s offer out of the water as they did with Leny Yoro.
The difference is that Guimaraes is already 28, turning 29 in November, which is around the age at which Casemiro joined United.
His game is also reliant on physicality and intensity, so United could see a decline in his performance levels after a season or two.
Beating Madrid’s financial offer for Yoro made sense because of the long-term upside, but doing the same for Guimaraes would be ill-advised.
€80m for Guimaraes is already the upper limit of what the club should pay for a soon-to-be 29-year-old, so committing more to wages and transfer fees to beat Madrid would just end up coming back to haunt United in the long term.
Guimaraes is undoubtedly a brilliant player who would improve United, but so did Casemiro, until he didn’t, and United couldn’t shift him due to his wages.
This is not a Yoro situation, so United must resist turning it into one.
